Absolutely beautifully shot. Great colour palette and camera movement / framing. Worth watching for this alone.
The main story is also told with subtlety and care. Harvey Keitel and Holly Hunter are excellent in the lead roles, having a great dynamic between them. It pulls the viewer one way and then flips in another direction with wonderful craft.
The score perfectly matches the great cinematography. Some of the frames and compositions are among the most memorable that I have seen.

A fairly disjointed and uneven film but still very interesting to watch. Captures the post 9-11 feeling. Its very hard to gauge where the film is going at any given time as it tends to jump all over the place without any real flow or purpose. It is not Paul Thomas Anderson's Magnolia for instance. But it is still interesting for its unpredictability. Anna Paquin's character is impossible to read. My feeling is that she is a possibly a sociopath.

Amazing film. Intense soundtrack that really adds another dimension to the film's atmosphere. Excellent cast and brilliant performances. Beautifully shot.

First time seeing this in many years. Still holds up well. A brilliant directorial debut. Great characters, great dialogue and great music, hallmarks of Tarantino's later films. Watched this in the run up to the release of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. Tarantino season in full swing.

Seeing this years later is a hugely different experience. Also the Uncut is much more 'coherent'. In this sense it completely loses any ambiguity and it is fairly straight-forward. Donnie is an extremely intelligent teenager who has special abilities. One of them being that he can see into the future. This ability forces him to make a sacrifice. He commits a selfless act for the sake of his family and a girl that he falls in love with.
A well written film who interesting subtexts of depression, adolescence and paedophilia.
